Blotter: Hit-and-Run Suspect Refuses to Fess Up, Dog Fight Ends With Owners Brawling on the Beach

Here's what went down in and around Half Moon Bay over the weekend.

The following information was supplied by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, Sept. 20

12:19 a.m. - 700 block of Lancaster, Moss Beach - Under influence controlled substance/ Appropriate lost property - Deputies dispatched to report of a subject refusing to leave a residence, and made contact with two adult males who appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. One subject was also found to be in possession of credit cards that didn’t belong to him. The two men were cited and released on their promise to appear in court.

11 p.m. – 7 p.m. - 600 block of Seymour, Half Moon Bay - Grand theft - Deputy took report of the theft of numerous items from three vehicles as well as from a business, when unknown suspect(s) entered the commercial property through an unlocked and open gate.

8:51 a.m. - Pescadero Creek Rd., Unincorporated - Misdemeanor warrant - Deputy dispatched to report of transients sleeping in a vehicle and made contact with a male and female. The woman was found to be wanted on a misdemeanor warrant out of Santa Cruz, and was cited and released on her promise to appear in court.

9:38 p.m. - Cabrillo Hwy at Cypress Ave., Moss Beach – DUI - Deputy on patrol observed vehicle traveling at a very slow rate of speed and swerving over the center lane divider. The deputy performed a traffic stop and found the driver appeared to be intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

Saturday, Sept. 21

2:32 a.m. - 600 block of Spruce, Half Moon Bay – DUI/ Drive with suspended license - Deputy on patrol observed vehicle fail to stop at stop sign, and performed traffic stop. The driver appeared to be driving under the influence of alcohol, and on a suspended license. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

8:11 a.m. - 100 block of 11st St., Montara - Public intoxication/ Released from custody - Deputy dispatched to report of intoxicated female walking in a bathrobe southbound on SR1. The woman was determined to be too intoxicated to care for herself, and was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail, to be released when sober. 

3:30 p.m. - 400 block of Miramontes Ave., Half Moon Bay – Vandalism - Deputy took report of vandalism to classroom window, when unknown suspect(s) broke a window to a classroom. Nothing appeared to be missing from the classroom. 

6:35 p.m. - 0-100 block of N. Cabrillo, Half Moon Bay - Public intoxication - Deputies dispatched to report of subject creating a disturbance, and made contacted with a male transient who was determined to be too intoxicated to care for himself. He was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

8 p.m. - Alsace Lorraine at Miramontes, Half Moon Bay - Hit and run/ Obstruct a peace officer - Deputies dispatched to report of non injury hit and run, when a vehicle hit a street sign and left the area. The vehicle’s license plate was found at the scene and Deputies attempted to make contact with the owner at his home nearby. The suspect vehicle was found in the driveway, with collision damage on it, a license plate missing, and a piece of the damaged street sign stuck in the grill. The suspected driver of the vehicle answered the door, stated it wasn’t his car, and closed the door, refusing to come out or speak to the Deputies. The case will be forwarded to the DA for review on charges of hit and run and obstructing an officer.

Sunday, Sept. 22

100 block of Shelden, La Honda - Residential burglary - Deputy took report of theft from unlocked garage, when unknown suspect(s) took a generator, helmet and tire with wheel. The items were valued at approximately $1,500.

5 p.m. - 500 block of Turnberry, Half Moon Bay - Suspicious circumstance - Deputy dispatched to report of suspicious circumstance, when the reporting party advised someone had smashed the window of her vehicle. Nothing was missing from the vehicle, and a golf ball was found nearby, which may have caused the damage to the vehicle’s window.

5:22 p.m. - 0-100 block of Mirada Rd., Half Moon Bay – Battery - Deputy dispatched to report of dog fight and physical altercation between the two dog owners. The reporting party stated he was running on the beach with his dog on leash, when another dog, also on leash, charged his dog and grabbed his dog by the neck and held on. The victim stated he got tangled up in the leashes and fell to the ground. When he got back up he stated he kicked the other dog until it let go of his dog. The victim then reported getting punched in the ear by the other dog’s owner, knocking him to the ground. The victim stated he punched the other man, causing him to bleed, and then the two men went their separate ways. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the other dog owner.

6:02 p.m. - 300 block of Main St., Half Moon Bay - Misdemeanor warrant - Deputy made contact with a subject wanted on a misdemeanor warrant out of San Mateo County. He was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail without incident.

7:51 p.m. - 0-100 block of N. Cabrillo Hwy., Half Moon Bay – DUI - Deputy dispatched to report of possible intoxicated driver, who was reported to be unable to maintain his lane and nearly ran off the road twice. The suspect vehicle was stopped and the driver appeared to be intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.
