Blotter: Jewelry Stolen, Crab Poachers Caught, Hit and Run Driven Nabbed for DUI

Here's what went down in and around Half Moon Bay last weekend.

The following information was supplied by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, Aug. 16

12:37 a.m. - Cabrillo Hwy at Etheldore, Moss Beach - Minor possession of alcohol/ False information to officer/ False information to officer - Deputy on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle and made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, which had apparently broken down. The Deputy observed the odor of marijuana and alcohol emitting from the vehicle. An under-age 20 year-old driver admitted to have been drinking earlier. A juvenile female in the vehicle gave the Deputy a false name and date of birth, and was in possession of a bottle of alcohol. She was cited for possession of alcohol and for giving false information to a peace officer. Another female juvenile in the car, who had lied to the Deputy about her age, was found to be on probation, with curfew and alcohol conditions. The case will be forwarded to the DA for review on several charges against both the driver and the two female passengers.

5:30 a.m. - 200 block of Filbert, Half Moon Bay - Residential burglary - Deputy dispatched to report of residential burglary, when unknown suspect(s) broke the lock on an exterior door, and rummaged through the residence, taking jewelry.

9:15 a.m. S. Cabrillo at Filbert, Half Moon Bay - Driving with suspended license - A 26-year-old driver from El Granada was cited for driving with a suspended license.

Saturday, Aug. 17

7:40 p.m. - Montara State Beach Montara - Hit and run/DUI - Deputy dispatched to report of hit and run collision, with the suspect vehicle fleeing towards the City of Pacifica. The Deputy followed the suspect vehicle, and located the vehicle in Pacifica, stopped, and blocking a shopping center entrance. The driver was contacted and appeared to be intoxicated. CHP arrived on scene to complete the DUI investigation.

8:19 p.m. - 500 block of California Moss Beach - Failure to appear after written promise - A citizen came to the substation to inquire about the status of his driver’s license. The subject was found to be wanted on a misdemeanor warrant out of San Mateo County. He was cited and released.

Sunday, Aug. 18

1:20 a.m. - N. Cabrillo Hwy at Kelly, Half Moon Bay - Taking Dungeness crab out of season - Deputy performed traffic stop on vehicle weaving in its lane, and determined that neither the driver nor passenger had been drinking. Both subjects stated they had been fishing in the area and had caught some crabs. Both said they did not know it was illegal to take crabs at this time. They were cited for the infraction violation and released on their promise to appear. The crabs were returned to the ocean.

2:10 p.m. - Miramontes Point Rd, Half Moon Bay - Information report for cliff rescue - Deputy dispatched to report of subject that had fallen off a cliff and was unable to move. The man was taken by helicopter to Stanford Hospital for medical care.
