Blotter: Transient Threatened by Half Moon Bay Man Carrying a Machete

Here's what went down in Half Moon Bay over the weekend.

The following information was supplied by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, June 7

1:45 a.m. - 0-100 block of N. Cabrillo, Half Moon Bay - Misdemeanor warrant - Deputy on patrol contacted subject sleeping in a car, and found him to be wanted on a misdemeanor warrant out of San Mateo County. He was cited and released on his promise to appear in court. 

2:45 p.m. - 1100 block of Main St, Half Moon Bay -  Runaway juvenile - Deputy took report of a runaway 15-year-old female juvenile. 

6:48 p.m. - 500 block of Church St., Half Moon Bay - Threats/Assault and Battery - Deputy dispatched to report of fight between two male middle school students, when one student reportedly called the other a name and a fight ensued. A witness stated one juvenile verbally threatened to kill the other during the altercation. The case will be forwarded to the juvenile DA for review.

6 p.m. to 10:40 a.m. - 700 block of Main, Half Moon Bay - Commercial burglary - Deputy took report of the theft of four cases of beer, when an unknown suspect forced open an outdoor freezer, and took the beer, valued at approximately $80.

Saturday, June 8

9:35 p.m. - 300 block of Valdez, Half Moon Bay - Misdemeanor warrant - Deputy made contact with a 20 year old male from Half Moon Bay wanted on a misdemeanor warrant out of San Mateo County. She was cited and released on her promise to appear in court.

11:31 p.m. - 500 block of Kelly, Half Moon Bay - DUI - Deputy on patrol observed vehicle loose traction, squeal and fishtail as it accelerated rapidly onto SR1. The 34 year old driver from Half Moon Bay parked the vehicle at a nearby store, and the Deputy made contact. The driver appeared to be intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. He was arrested and transported to SM County Jail.

Sunday, June 9

10:18 p.m. - 0-100 block of N. Cabrillo Hwy, Half Moon Bay - Kidnapping/Exhibit deadly weapon - Deputy dispatched to report of a man with a knife, and upon arrival was advised the suspect had fled the area. The victim reported the suspect, a 53-year-old man from Half Moon Bay, had threatened him with a machete, but was uninjured. The victim, a transient, reported he was asleep in his tent when the suspect approached him, reportedly asking for a tent and a cell phone. The victim stated the suspect demanded a tent and a cell phone and forced the victim to walk to a nearby drug store to “buy him a tent,” while carrying the machete.

Upon arrival at the drug store the victim asked employees to call 911. While interviewing the victim, the suspect returned and was detained. The suspect reported earlier that day outside his residence, the victim offered to sell him a tent and a stove. The suspect stated he went inside for his wallet and when he came back out, found his cell phone missing and believed the victim took it. The suspect admitted to bringing the machete with him to look for the victim in an attempt to locate his cell phone. He was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.
