Unknown Suspect Tries to Hot Wire a Car, Pescadero Resident Turns in 2 Firearms

Here's what went down in and around Half Moon Bay over the weekend.

The following information was supplied by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, July 26 

2 a.m. - 0-100 block Miramontes Pt Rd., Half Moon Bay - Information report - Deputies responded to report of several juveniles trespassing on hotel property. The juveniles had been drinking, but did not meet the criteria for public intoxication. They were released to a responsible adult.

1:15 p.m. - 100 block of San Mateo Rd., Half Moon Bay - Battery on spouse/ False imprisonment - Deputies dispatched to report of fight in progress, which was determined to be a domestic violence incident. A witness reported seeing a male yelling at the female victim, while grabbing her by the arm, and holding her against her will for approximately 20 seconds. The 43-year-old man from Hayward was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

1:20 p.m. - 500 block of Kelly, Half Moon Bay - Felony warrant – An-18-year-old male wanted on a $300,000 warrant out of San Mateo County and a $30,000 warrant out of Santa Clara County, turned himself in at the substation. He was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail. 

3 p.m. - 100 block of Cuesta Real, La Honda - Grand theft - Deputy took report of theft from a vehicle, when unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked vehicle and took a laptop.

3:32 p.m. - Johnson Pier - Information report - Deputy responded to report of subject causing a disturbance within an office. The subject was asked to leave and a report was taken to document the incident.

8:14 p.m. - 2100 block of Higgins Canyon Rd., Unincorporated - Possession of marijuana - Deputies dispatched to report of subjects “partying” in the area, and made contact with four subjects in a parked vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was found in possession of concentrated cannabis, and was cited and released on his promise to appear in court.

Saturday, July 27

12:23 a.m. - 8100 block of Cabrillo Hwy., Montara - Possession controlled substance/ DUI/ Drive with suspended license - Deputy on patrol observed vehicle cross over double yellow lines, then drift onto shoulder and quickly jerk back onto roadway. The deputy performed traffic stop and found the driver appeared to be intoxicated. The driver was found to be driving with a suspended license, and to be in possession of suspected ecstasy pills. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

2 a.m. - Main Street, Montara – DUI – A Half Moon Bay man was cited for driving under the influence and transported to First Chance.

4:27 a.m. - 500 block of California, Moss Beach - Public intoxication/Released from custody - Deputy on patrol observed subject suddenly run into the roadway, and yelling while waving his arms in the air. The subject was determined to be too intoxicated to care for himself and was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail, to be released when sober.

11 a.m. - 100 block of Amesport, Half Moon Bay - Attempted stolen vehicle/Petty theft - Deputy dispatched to report of attempted vehicle theft, when unknown suspect(s) removed a steering wheel theft prevention device and attempted to “hot wire” the car. The only thing missing from the vehicle was loose change.

4:25 p.m. - 700 block of Main St., Half Moon Bay - Petty theft - Deputy took report of theft from a vehicle, when an unknown suspect took items from an unlocked vehicle. The suspect vehicle was seen leaving the area, but the license plate number came back to a vehicle out of San Francisco, that’s license plate had been stolen.

5:30 p.m. - Cabrillo Hwy @ Tunitas Creek, Unincorporated - Burglary from vehicle - Deputy dispatched to report of theft from vehicle, when unknown suspect(s) smashed the vehicle’s window and took a wallet from the glove box.

7:30 p.m. - 100 block of San Mateo Rd., Half Moon Bay - Petty theft - Deputy responded to report of theft from vehicle, when the victim reported parking her vehicle to go to work, and when she returned found her purse missing from the unlocked vehicle.

8:38 p.m. - 0-100 block of N. Cabrillo, Half Moon Bay - Burglary from vehicle - Deputy dispatched to report of theft from vehicle that had just occurred. Unknown suspect(s) smashed a vehicle window and took a purse, containing a cell phone, jewelry and currency. The loss was estimated at approximately $3,790.

Sunday, July 28

12:30 p.m. - 0-100 N. Cabrillo Hwy, Half Moon Bay - Drive with suspended license – A 29 year old woman from Half Moon Bay was cited for driving with a suspended license. 

1 p.m. - 100 block of Amesport Landing, Half Moon Bay - Residential burglary - Deputy dispatched to report of theft, when unknown suspect(s) entered an open garage and took a bicycle valued at $5,000 from a storage rack.

1:04 p.m. - Alsace Loraine @ Kelly Ave., Half Moon Bay - Possession marijuana while driving - Driver cited for infraction, possession of marijuana while driving.

Monday, July 29 

2:12 a.m. - S. Cabrillo @ Kelly Ave., Half Moon Bay – DUI - Deputy on patrol observed vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, and swerve across double yellow lines, then come very close to the median. The Deputy performed a traffic stop and found a 30 year old woman from Half Moon Bay that appeared to be intoxicated. She failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to First Chance.

5:30 a.m. - N. Cabrillo Hwy @ Grandview, Half Moon Bay - Drive with suspended license - Driver cited for driving with a suspended license.

7:13 a.m. - Johnson Pier - Information report - Deputies responded to report of small vessel stranded against the outer jetty wall when its motor lost power. Its three passengers were standing on the jetty break wall, and were uninjured. The vessel was towed back to the harbor. 

10:30 a.m. - 300 block of Lower Dearborn Park Rd., Pescadero - Information report - Deputy dispatched to report of a citizen who wished to turn in two firearms.

1:32 p.m. - 100 block of Retiro, Moss Beach - Probation violation - Deputy dispatched to family disturbance, and met with the mother of a female juvenile on probation, that left the house the previous day and did not return home until the next day. The juvenile’s probation officer requested she be arrested for violation of her probation terms, and she was transported to the Youth Services Center.
