Claiming Norteño Affiliation, Intoxicated Man Arrested Saturday

Incident took place at Stone Pine Center in Half Moon Bay.

A man claiming to be a Norteño while intoxicated was arrested on Saturday evening following a deputy's response to a report of a group of people "yelling and making noise" at Stone Pine Center, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office reported today.

Approximately 20 people dispersed after Sheriff's Deputy Genaro Urena arrived at the shopping center in downtown Half Moon Bay at approximately 11:45 p.m., according to the Sheriff's Office.

Upon exiting his patrol car, Urena approached 18-year-old Luis Aguilar and asked him to leave the area and not return, the Sheriff's Office reported.

Aguilar, a Half Moon Bay resident, reportedly told Urena that he was not going to leave.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Aguilar challenged Urena to a physical fight and said "I don't give a *%#! who you is, I'm a Norteño from Media Luna."

The Sheriff's Office reported that Aguilar appeared intoxicated and had red and watery eyes, was unsteady on his feet, spoke in slurred speech, and that Urena detected the smell of alcohol on his breath when speaking to him.

Aguilar was arrested for public intoxication due to his "high level of intoxication and his inability to follow simple directions," the Sheriff's Office said today.

He was later transported and booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City without incident.
