Coastside Tsunami Test Cancelled New Year’s Day

The audible tsunami siren test that routinely takes place on the first Wednesday of every month will be cancelled in January. New Year's Day falls on the first Wednesday of January and is a holiday.

The normally scheduled audible test of the tsunami sirens will resume on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, and continue for the ensuing first Wednesday of each month thereafter.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services in conjunction with the Cities of Pacifica and Half Moon Bay operate eight notification sirens that will be used to alert the public in the event of a tsunami or other potential threat to the safety of the coast.
