Coastside Tsunami Warning System Back in Operation
Officials plan to conduct tests of the system every day and once a month.
Repair work has been completed on a series of tsunami warning sirens on the San Mateo County Coast, according to the sheriff's office.
A test of the warning system in August found that five out of eight sirens positioned along 30 miles of coastline between Pacifica and Pescadero were not functioning properly.
The sirens and two base stations were updated to warn Coastside residents in the event of a tsunami, even if a portion of the system is inoperable, the sheriff's office said.
The new system has the capacity to deliver voice messages with possible instructions as well as a siren tone in the event of an emergency.
Officials plan to conduct a silent test of the system twice a day and an audible test on the first Wednesday of each month.
