‘Creepy’ Video Has Some Coastside Residents Wary About Hiking Montara Mountain

Is this video a gag or for real? Pacifica Police say they are looking into it.

It’s yet to be verified by authorities whether it’s a prank or for real, but this video originally posted on LiveLeak about a week ago has some coastal residents feeling very uneasy about hiking Montara Mountain these days.

In the video titled “I made a "Friend" on the Mountain...Wait for it...” a masked individual films a woman walking up a trail on Montara Mountain. The person who posted the video writes, “Just the way I like to spend my time once I'm at the "Peak"...;) I'll upload the rest of the video later…”

The police and Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) park patrol are dealing with the situation and have the video poster’s contact information, according to a Pacifica Beach Coalition spokesperson, who notified Patch about the video and called the video “creepy and scary.”

It's scaring a lot of people judging by the number of posts on Facebook about it. Sally Pemerton is "totally creeped out" and it makes her "nervous about hiking alone." Sue Bliss says it's "creepy and scary" and "always go with a buddy." Kathy Llorente says "it's probably a gag, but creepy is the right word" and Karen Colucci wonders, "Is this for real? I thought it was a joke. The person looks like a woman. So bizarre!"

K.P. writes on Patch's Facebook page: "The person filmed in this video is my friend. She is fine. But I have a feeling she will not be hiking alone anymore. This is a horrible video and NOT FUNNY. Please keep posting — perhaps we can eventually identify the person who made it."

According to Cap. Daniel Steidle of the Pacifica Police Department, a bulletin about a suspicious circumstance in the Montara Mountain area was sent out on Sept. 26 to other law enforcement agencies in the county.

“When someone posts a video like this, it warrants law enforcement’s attention,” said Steidle. “We have identified the individual and once we locate him, will find out what his intent is and put the public’s mind at ease. No crime was committed but we take it seriously when something like this is put out there.”

Pacifica Police are taking the lead on this case even though the park is under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service.

What do you think? Is this video a gag or for real?

I know huh? Especially if those men wear tight, provocative pants, really puts them at risk of being overpowered, attacked, and raped by some sick woman.

I'm glad you guys can all understand his humor! You see, I wasn't sure if I should post MY video of me stalking Gort back to his house and staring in his window. At the end, I turn the camera back to myself while I'm naked, smilling, and holding an electric chainsaw, a machete, and a bottle of lye. I was thinking it might be a little too creepy, but hey! It sounds like the guys on this site understand how funny that really is!!!!

MUHAHAHAHAHA....hahaha....! ;-) Why do so few people have a sense of humor (good or bad)? Life with its obligations is not serious enough? Behind every corner a ' bad, bad, black man '? Anyone who says in jest is soon: ' I could kill you! ', prosecuted and must think in prison about his sins? Soon every, who says in pleasure and laughter is: 'I pnkel' me right in my pants! ', a Bettpisser and rug rats? Is weighed every word and every joke previously requested and discussed? People! Once again will be a little looser! Everything is good! It must be laughing! For me the video is just as scary as 'Scary Movie' or 'Jim, the ghost'. Of also were few days employs a few people and asked. Hurray, it's alive! There was also a lot for me personally. (Voltage and game... neweisse teeth behind a bad ski mask. In this sense and always beautiful crazy MUHAHAHAHAHA....hahaha....! ;-)

Gort, who's your mother? I'd like to have a word with her.
Pacificat October 04, 2013 at 07:27 PM
That's the most unfunny video I've ever seen.
Patrick Perotti October 05, 2013 at 02:55 AM
Totally wrong. Just wrong. The jerk spoofs a subject that is never funny. Then posters defend him, showing how PC and pro free speech they are? Some people are getting sicker and sicker.

What I think is really funny, is that this was all started because someone from Liveleak reported this as a joke. Now look what has happened! He is probably sitting at home laughing his ass off at the stuff he has caused. And I must say, it has brought me lots of fun as well. But seriously. I wear ski masks as well to keep bugs off my face. I live in OC, when your in the mountains, you get a lot of them coming at you, mostly because of sweat. Even if you are near the ocean, especially Laguna. I mean come on people. This is what America has become. A bunch of over protective losers, who freak out over anything when there is nothing tragic in the news. I shed a tear for my country and state.

This is why dogs should be allowed on Montara Mountain. She'd at least have a protector or two or three. Why anyone thinks this is okay or funny is just wrong. If she had been attacked, all your comments would be different.
Gary B. Robinson October 05, 2013 at 03:49 PM
@Pat Davison FFS she WASN'T attacked, nor was there EVER any intention that she would be attacked. Get over your self-righteous self!!
Marshall Sam McCloud October 05, 2013 at 04:39 PM
Oh come on. That's a gag video, the idiot is going out of his way to look creepy.
Pat Davison October 05, 2013 at 06:19 PM
@Gary B. Robinson I get that. It's unfortunate that you cannot respect one's space and one's opinion.
Pacificat October 05, 2013 at 07:09 PM
Anybody who thinks the video is funny is sick.
Iris Dandi October 05, 2013 at 08:16 PM
It is a creepy thing to do. Girls and women nowadays are told to be alert if there is something unusual, and if you have been around someone who has been attacked or raped it is very scarring. If he does this to someone who has that scarring, it would be cruel - and just for being his version of 'funny." It could backfire for him if a Zimmerman clone observes this and finds him to be acting suspiciously.
Iris Dandi October 05, 2013 at 08:23 PM
I think that provocative clothing is around too much. Especially the ones that men and women wear that shows their butt crack. Yoga clothing is athletic wear, and I agree that super revealing is not appropriate for a hike, or practical. However she didn't look too revealing to me, not as much as some cyclists whose tight pants reveal butt and balls. Your remark shows how women don't take into account how much their intentions can be misinterpreted by some men.
Joe Mamma October 05, 2013 at 10:30 PM
A wake up call to California, the state that has abandoned the Constitution and the right of the people to bear arms. That lady walking that trail can't even legally carry a side arm to protect herself, and that is an outrage. God created man, Sam Colt made him equal.
Sara Bloom October 05, 2013 at 10:57 PM
The kid is a jerk. He should be home doing his homework instead of making videos of himself acting a fool on the side of a mountain. Hope his mom sees this and gathers all his electronic gadgets, puts them in a box and sends them to charity. Maybe find a part time job for him too. He thinks he's a grown up tough guy? He should start paying rent.
Roxy October 05, 2013 at 11:44 PM
This is why women need to carry a firearm in the back country. Most non offending men that see something like this happen will just run in fear. Chivalry is dead. Women, hike in pairs. A psychopath is less likely to attack two women.
Keith October 06, 2013 at 01:09 AM
Hard to believe folks have derived such conclusions about what is obviously a dark-humor video. The police are investigating? Great. Now your tax dollars are involved. Is the creator of the video an idiot for posting it? Possibly: Guilty of inciting idiots to react. Lesson: Shutter comedy with fear. Hike in groups with firearms and dogs. Bring in Homeland Security to drag OP into a police station for hours of questioning eventually leading to trial. Complicate his hopes and dreams in the name of your narrow world view.

Must be the furloughs. "Smell that?"
Anthony Romeo Jr. October 06, 2013 at 02:11 AM
I'll call it as I see it. "Entrapment." Cased closed.
Alice Stevens October 06, 2013 at 07:48 AM
Provocative clothing?????? What's so provocative about a tank top and yoga pants. She's not hiking in a lacy bra and crotchless underwear...she's in athletic attire....which is what you wear when you go on a hike.
Pacificat October 06, 2013 at 10:30 AM
Yes, men are powerless to restrain themselves from raping when they see a woman walking alone in yoga pants and tank top. It's the woman's fault for not covering up more. Men simply can't be socialized not to rape. What a bunch of neanderthal idiots.
Robert Brooks October 06, 2013 at 11:49 AM
I'd use that video as an educational experience ladies.
Kathleen Vaughn October 06, 2013 at 12:11 PM
What a jerk.
Roger Womack October 06, 2013 at 12:43 PM
America has become home to all the sick freaks !
Rapgame Alfonso October 06, 2013 at 01:31 PM
This video is really funny. The video isn't the joke, its all these people in an uproar for around 40 seconds of footage. Get over it.
Sara Bloom October 07, 2013 at 12:15 PM
This video isn't creepy either. It's irritating. I want someone to find that kid and do a video of him getting his bike wrapped around his ski-masked head.
Laura Caseley October 07, 2013 at 12:42 PM
It looks like the person filming was simply another hiker shooting the view, and happened to spot the woman, then zoomed in on her as a joke. I understand the creep factor, but it's likely just some kids trying to be funny on YouTube. There are lots of videos of people being filmed unawares with (we can hope) no malicious intent. Uncomfortable? Yes. Dumb? Rather. But I wouldn't live in fear over it. Although a black ski mask does wonders for making your teeth look nice and bright, I must say.
Mike Hawk January 28, 2014 at 01:40 PM
Maybe if dumb ass women would stop acting like sluts like the one in the video, then maybe they won't get raped. Fucking feminists are quick to blame when when women is the cause of all problems. Stop acting like whores you bitches and know your place! This includes all women. Plus she's just asking to be raped which is pretty hilarious! And all you women should get off the computer and actually start doing something productive shaking my head. Bottom line is stop acting like sluts and don't go outside like sluts.
