Dead Body Found at Roosevelt Beach This Morning

Passerby notified authorities of discovery shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday at beach located in Half Moon Bay.

A dead body discovered at Roosevelt Beach in Half Moon Bay this morning appears to be that of a suicide victim, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said today.

The California State Parks police was dispatched to the scene at 7:57 a.m. upon notification from a passerby who discovered the body, according to the Sheriff's Office.

San Mateo County Sheriff's Office detectives and the San Mateo County Coroner responded to the scene as well.

An investigator from the county coroner declared the body deceased at 8:09 a.m. and took custody of the body, the Sheriff's Office reported.

Upon investigation, authorities believe that the cause of death was suicide, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's Office deputies located the victim's car nearby.

The victim's name will not be released until the next of kin has been notified, said Lt. Ray Lunny, spokesperson for the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
