El Granada DUI Stop Ends With Woman Attacking Deputy, Child Endangerment, Sheriff's Office Says

By Bay City News Service:

A San Francisco woman was arrested in the coastal town of El Granada over the weekend after she allegedly drove drunk and kicked a deputy, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday at around 9:10 p.m., deputies responded to a call reporting that a woman who appeared to be intoxicated was about to drive away with a child in her vehicle, the sheriff's office said.

The woman, who was later identified as 43-year-old Abby Christine Sherwood, was parked in the 100 block of Avenue Portola.

The child in the vehicle was Sherwood's 10-year-old daughter. Arriving deputies contacted Sherwood, who allegedly became argumentative and refused to perform field sobriety tests, the sheriff's office said.

Sherwood eventually admitted to driving to the location and pulling over because she was too drunk, the sheriff's office said.

During questioning, Sherwood spit in a deputy's face and kicked him several times, the sheriff's office said.

She was arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail for DUI, child endangerment and battery on a peace officer.
