Explosions Mire End of Boston Marathon

Five people from Half Moon Bay area are registered as runners.

A day of celebration has turned into tragedy and chaos as two explosions take place about an hour after the first man crossed the finished line in Boston this Monday. The explosions reportedly killed three and injured dozens.

According to the Boston Athletic Association website, 5 people registered for the race from the Coastside. Of those, three had already crossed the finish line.

Handel's wife Kate reports from Moss Beach that she heard from her husband Sean, and he is fine.

"He says Amanda Jurinen and David Lara are there and fine, too," she said.

"I am safe and with David Lara and Sean Handel," writes Jurinen on Half Moon Bay Patch's Facebook page. "No idea on others."

Handel also heard from Eric Vaughan and Chuck Turner, who are fine.

Vaughan actually didn't make it to Boston this year, and writes to Patch: "All Coastsiders are present and accounted for."

It's likely that others from the city travelled out there to give them support. Patch will continue to report this story as it develops and bring news about our local runners as we hear more.

There is no confirmation about what may have caused the explosion.

If you know anyone of these people, please encourage them to call Patch or their family members. The numbered injured or any casualties have not been released.
