UPDATE: Fatal Collision with Tree Near Pescadero State Beach

70-year-old driver reportedly not wearing seat belt in early Sunday morning incident.

Update 12/5 11:37 a.m.: The Pescadero man who died in Sunday's car crash has been identified as William Willett, Bay City News has reported. 

Update 12/4 12:44 p.m.: The driver in the fatal crash was determined to be a 70-year-old Pescadero resident, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A car collided with a tree early Sunday morning on Pescadero Rd. which resulted in the death of the motorist, the California Highway Patrol reported this morning.

Officers were called out to the scene at approximately 1:15 a.m. First responders reportedly encountered the vehicle smashed against a tree and on its side.

According to the CHP, a preliminary investiation indicated that the cause of the accident was the driver's failure to make a left turn on the road east of Butano Rd., which caused the collision with the tree on the right shoulder.

The motorist was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, the CHP said.

It is not known at this time whether alcohol played a part in the incident.

The San Mateo County Coroner's Office will release the name of the motorist once the family has been notified.

The CHP requests that witnesses to the collision should contact Officer Farris at (650) 369-6261 ext. 372.
