UDPATE: Fatality in Solo Rollover Vehicle Collision South of Half Moon Bay

Crash and death of 54-year-old Half Moon Bay resident took place on Verde Road south of Purisima Creek Road Monday afternoon.

A Half Moon Bay resident was pronounced dead at the scene of a rollover solo vehicle collision that took place just south of Half Moon Bay yesterday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision, which took place on Verde Road south of Purisima Creek Road, was responded to at 3:10 p.m. by the California Highway Patrol, according to Art Montiel, CHP spokesperson.

Montiel has identified the driver as 54-year-old Gail Burnett.

Burnett was traveling southbound on Verde Road when her 1971 MG convertible sedan veered to the right when encountering a northbound driver, according to reports. In response, the northbound driver veered to the left off the roadway.

Burnett's car rolled over on the roadway. The vehicle came to rest on its roof, which had the impact of causing major head injuries, according to the CHP.

Montiel said that Burnett was wearing a seatbelt.

The CHP believes that alcohol played a part in this collision, according to Montiel, but is still waiting for toxicology tests to be released.

The collision is currently under investigation.
