Gang Fight Led to Police Pursuit and Crash

Two arrests have been made.

UPDATED FROM ARTICLE ON SUNDAY, OCT. 7.

A reported gang fight that broke out in the sports field of the Moon Ridge low-income housing development Sunday afternoon led to a vehicle pursuit between suspects and police, a DUI investigation by California Highway Patrol (CHP), and two arrests.

Detective Rebecca Rosenblatt, public information officer for the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, said it appears the fight was primarily between two individuals, though more people were around the location when it took place.

A call came in to the Sheriff's dispatch at 2:43 p.m. Though the initial call said one of the two main suspects had a gun, a gun was never found by Sheriff's deputies, so Rosenblatt told Patch it appears that part of the report was unfounded.

When the call came in, several Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the scene.

Rosenblatt told Patch, when the two main suspects saw deputies coming, they jumped into their vehicle and fled the scene.

A brief vehicle pursuit between Sheriff's deputies and the suspects ensued, eventually ending with the suspects' car crashing into a parked car in the area of Salal Road.

Eventually, the Sheriff's deputies took the two suspects into custody. At that point, CHP was called in to conduct a DUI investigation, since the deputies suspected the suspects may have been intoxicated.

In the end, one of the suspects was arrested and charged with evading an officer for leading authorities on the vehicle pursuit. The other suspect was arrested and charged with being drunk in public and for assault with a deadly weapon for using a large stick during the fight.

The identities of the suspects have not been released.
