Half Moon Bay Stabbing Suspect to Face Charges Next Week

Wilmer Manuel Ucan charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with incident outside IDES Hall.

The 17-year-old suspect in last month's stabbing of four men outside a Half Moon Bay wedding is scheduled to be arraigned next week, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.

On Feb. 21, El Granada resident Wilmer Manuel Ucan will enter his plea in response to charges of four counts of attempted murder and four counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors believe Ucan participated in the Jan. 28 incident outside IDES Hall on Main St.

Included in the charges are three sentencing enhancements which could make Ucan's prison sentence longer if he is convicted: one for great bodily injury, one for a criminal street gang and another for personal use of a firearm when committing a felony.

Ucan is an associate of the Media Luna (Half Moon Bay) Norteños street gang, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

The incident allegedly took place as the result of a dispute Ucan got involved with at the wedding, the Sheriff's Office said.

On Monday, San Mateo County Superior Court assigned Ucan a defender from the county's private defender program, according to prosecutor Karen Guidotti.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office has not released Ucan's booking photo due to his juvenile status.

Ucan, who was arrested last week, remains in custody on no bail status.
