A man was airlifted to a hospital after a small explosion at a restaurant on the San Mateo County coast this afternoon.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the Gazos Grill, located at 5720 Cabrillo Highway in Pescadero, at 3:06 p.m., a San Mateo County fire dispatcher said.
Grill employee Harleigh Stolz, whose aunt and uncle own the restaurant, said her father was lighting a pilot light when a small blast occurred.
She said her father suffered injuries to his arms and was transported by helicopter to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center as a precaution in case his lungs had been burned.
Stolz said he was conscious and talking before he was taken to the hospital.
She said there was no damage to the restaurant, which was closed at the time of the accident.
