Man Hits Woman, Dog Bites Man

Valente Gonzalez, 24, of South City, was behind bars Friday on a no-bail probation hold.

A 24-year-old South City man was behind bars Friday after allegedly assaulting a woman who intervened in his fight with his girlfriend, then hiding in a South San Francisco crawlspace until bitten by a police dog.

Valente Gonzalez was booked into the county jail on suspicion of assault, resisting arrest, false imprisonment and parole violation, a sergeant told Patch.

He was being held on no bail, both on the probation hold and on the other booking charges.

Information on a court date was not immediately available.

The incident began about noon Thursday in the 700 block of Hickory Place, when police were called to investigate reports of a domestic disturbance, according to SSFPD Sgt. Bruce McPhillips.

Police were told that the suspect had struck a woman in the face when she tried to intervene in a fight between the suspect and his girlfriend, the sergeant told Patch.

The caller reported that the suspect had a knife and was threatening to harm himself, McPhillips said.

When officers arrived, the suspect would not come to the door and instead hid in a crawlspace, the sergeant reported, so police sent in a Belgian Malinois, to retrieve the suspect.

Mannix -- owned by SSF police Officer Blake Molyneux -- bit Gonzalez on the arm, the sergeant told Patch.

"He cried and came out," McPhillips told Patch.

Gonzalez was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then booked, the sergeant told Patch.

A rightly deserved. Let's hope for a rightly deserved jail term if he is found guilty.
