Mountain Lion Sighting in Half Moon Bay

The animal was reported by homeowners about 8 p.m. Friday, who said they had seen a mountain lion more than once in the past week.

 

A mountain lion sighting was reported Friday night in Half Moon Bay.

The mountain lion was seen about 8 p.m. in the vicinity of the 800 block of Frenchman's Creek Road by homeowners, who told authorities they had 
seen a mountain lion about three to four times in the last week, between dusk and 3 a.m. on a rural portion of their property on Frenchman's Creek Road.

The information, sent by San Mateo County Sheriff's Office representative Owen Yoch to the SCC Alert system, included the following advice:

Here are a few tips:  

Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active—dawn, dusk, and at night.  

Keep a close watch on small children.  

If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.  

Pick up small children.
