Neighborhood Watch Meets Saturday Morning in Response to Gang Activity

Organized by Half Moon Bay residents in Arleta Park.

Concerned neighbors are hosting a Neighborhood Watch meeting tomorrow morning (August 27) in the Arleta Park area of Half Moon Bay.

The meeting was organized in response to the recent that took place in the neighborhood on August 14 at First and Grove Street. has also been a recurring issue in this area as well.

A representative from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office will attend to speak to residents about how they can mobilize and work together to prevent further activity, as well as about general safety issues.

The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the end of Grove Street at Railroad Avenue in Half Moon Bay.

A citywide will be held this Tuesday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the (535 Kelly Avenue, Half Moon Bay). City leaders and representatives from the Sheriff's Office will be there to talk to residents about gangs, graffiti, and community mobilization/prevention strategies. Members of the public will also be able to ask questions of authorities.

During the incident on August 14, one person was shot in the chest and another was shot in the foot. Both survived. The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the shooting was between Norteños and Sureños gangs. Members of both groups are known to reside in Half Moon Bay.

Though the Sheriff's Office has made one of a juvenile for threatening a local resident, the suspect is still at large. An investigation of the incident by the Sheriff's Gang Intelligence Unit is ongoing, according to Lt. Ray Lunny.
