Person Airlifted to Hospital After Cliff Fall Near Ritz-Carlton

Rescuers from several agencies were at the scene in Half Moon Bay.


Firefighters and paramedics provided on-scene Advanced Life Support to a person who fell 100 feet from a cliff near Miramontes Point Road in Half Moon Bay Sunday afternoon.

The call for help was received around 2:10 p.m., according to Coastside Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ari Delay. The victim was found lying on the beach.

The patient was flown by helicopter to Stanford Medical Center with major injuries, Delay said.

Fire officials remind everyone of the dangers of coastal cliffs. Cliff tops sometimes appear stable but quickly crumble under pressure. Remember to heed the posted warnings advising of dangerous cliffs.

Several agencies were involved in the rescue including CAL FIRE / Coastside Fire Protection District District, San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, California State Parks Lifeguards, American Medical Response and Stanford Life Flight.
