Photo of Moss Beach Attempted Murder Suspect Released by County Sheriff

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office has released a photo of the suspect in last Thursday's attempted murder case in Moss Beach.

Half Moon Bay Patch has just received a photo of David John Vanalstine, the 56-year-old attempted murder suspect in the that took place at the Pillar Ridge Manufactured Home Community in Moss Beach last Thursday afternoon.

According to Lt. Ray Lunny of the Sheriff's Office, the photo is an old booking photo of the suspect. As of today, the suspect is still in custody, but has not been booked in the San Mateo County Jail yet due to his medical condition, according to Lt. Lunny. 

Vanalstine is suspected of inflicting a life-threatening injury to a 55-year-old woman's neck at her mobile home residence in the Pillar Ridge Manufactured Home Community located at the 100 block of Barranca Lane. According to the Sheriff's Office, Vanalstine and the victim had been living at the residence together for several years and were in a relationship.

Cal Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a 9-1-1 call at 4:43 pm last Thursday. Upon their arrival, the victim was found lying on the ground outside the residence. The victim reported being stabbed in the neck. She was taken to an area hospital, where she underwent surgery. The most recent update from the Sheriff's Office reported that the victim is expected to live.

The Investigations Unit of the Sheriff's Office reported finding evidence of an edged weapon at the scene, and says there is a history of law enforcement at the residence, but is not releasing details of that history at this time.
