Second Suspect in Montara Assault Turns Himself in Friday

Alec Silva, 18, charged with robbery and assault, surrenders to authorities at the San Mateo Co. Sheriff's Office Half Moon Bay substation today.

The ongoing investigation to identify and apprehend the second suspect wanted for robbing and beating up two boys aged 13 and 14 in Montara this May came to an end today.

At 1 p.m. Friday, Alec Silva, 18, of Half Moon Bay turned himself in at the San Mateo Co. Sheriff’s Office Half Moon Bay substation, according to Dep. Rebecca Rosenblatt of San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City and will be arraigned on the warrant in Court on Monday.

A $300,000 warrant for Silva’s arrest was issued by the San Mateo Co. Superior Court on Monday, July 22. The charges on the warrant are robbery and assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury.

The first suspect, Austin Krieger, 18, of Moss Beach was arrested on May 9. Krieger remains in custody and is being prosecuted by the San Mateo Co. District Attorney’s Office.

Krieger and Silva are accused of beating up the boys with their fists and then stealing a watch, cell phone and one of the victim’s tennis shoes. They then allegedly ran from the area and left in a vehicle described as a grey Suzuki Samurai.

The incident occurred on May 4 at approximately 4 p.m. in the afternoon when the two young boys, both Cunha Intermediate students, were playing in the basketball courts at Farallone View School. They were approached by two older males who made some derogatory remarks at the boys. The boys responded to the older males at which time the young boys were chased into a wooded area in the Rancho Corral De Tierra Preserve area just north of the school. The victims attempted to hide from the suspects, however, they were discovered.
