A 34-year-old registered sex offender who was allegedly caught masturbating while looking into a window of a condominium at Amesport Landing in Half Moon Bay has been charged with indecent exposure, lewd conduct and resisting arrest, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said Thursday afternoon.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the scene at 5:40 a.m. Thursday morning after two individuals reported hearing a noise from outside their window. The individuals opened the blinds and discovered the suspect looking in their window and masturbating with his pants around his ankles, according to the Sheriff's Office.
After one of the victims yelled at the suspect, he pulled up his pants and ran away, the Sheriff's Office said.
The suspect, identified as a transient currently based in Half Moon Bay, was discovered shortly afterwards by Sheriff's deputies searching the area based on the physical description given by the victims.
The suspect fled after being asked by deputies to surrender, and ran through the Amesport Landing complex, jumping fences along the way. He then ran across Highway 1 to the west side and continued to jump fences, the Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies caught the suspect in the second residential yard searched, and subsequently booked the suspect into the county's Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City after one of the victims positively identified the subject as being the same individual who was allegedly masturbating outside the window.
The suspect has been arrested before by Half Moon Bay police. John Sanchez, a former Half Moon Bay police officer who became a Sheriff's deputy after the city in June 2011, arrested the suspect in 2010 after he was caught masturbating while watching women work out at a local gym.
Deputy Sanchez led the team of deputies who took the suspect into custody Thursday morning.
