Sheriff’s Blotter: Motorist on Parole Cited for Allegedly Following Off-Duty Cop Too Close; Suspected Trespasser was an Evictee

The following information was supplied by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, Dec. 14

12:20 a.m. – Vehicle Recovery – 000 block of North Cabrillo Highway, Half Moon Bay - Deputy on patrol observed suspicious vehicle left unlocked and parked in a shopping center parking lot. The vehicle was determined to have been stolen out of San Jose and abandoned in Half Moon Bay.

1:05 a.m. – DUI - 200 block of Capistrano Road, Princeton - Deputy on patrol heard the sound of screeching and spinning tires and the revving of an engine, and then observed the suspect vehicle drive through a stop sign and lose control, striking a median curb, almost overturning. The Deputy performed a traffic stop and found the driver appeared to be intoxicated. CHP arrived on scene to complete the DUI investigation and subsequent arrest

6:18 a.m. – Missing Person Returned - 1300 block of Park Street, Montara - Deputies conducting a welfare check on a subject determined the female had been reported missing out of San Diego by a relative. The adult female was removed from the missing person’s system.

(Dec. 12-17) – Petty Theft – 400 block of Grand Avenue, Half Moon Bay - Deputy took report of stolen bicycle that was left unsecured outside a residence. The bike was valued at $200.

6:41 p.m. – Traffic Collision/False Information – 100 block of Cypress Point Road, Half Moon Bay - Deputies dispatched to non injury traffic collision in which five juveniles falsified their statement regarding which juvenile was actually driving the vehicle. The case will be forwarded to the DA for review on charges of giving false information to a peace officer.

 

Saturday, Dec. 15

1:58 a.m. - DUI - 000 block of North Cabrillo Highway, Half Moon Bay - Deputy on patrol observed vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and drift across double yellow lines. The deputy performed traffic stop and found the driver appeared to be intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to First Chance.

 

Tuesday, Dec. 18

1:55 a.m. – DUI – Kelly Street and Church Street, Half Moon Bay - Deputy on patrol observed vehicle with tinted front windows and performed traffic stop. The driver appeared to have been drinking and failed field sobriety tests. She was arrested and transported to First Chance.

9:48 p.m. – DUI - Highway 1 and Grand Avenue, Half Moon Bay - Deputy was advised by off duty Deputy of an intoxicated subject who got into his vehicle and exited the harbor. The suspect vehicle was located and stopped. The driver appeared to be intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. He was arrested and transported to SM County Jail.

10:01 p.m. – Information Report – Highway 1, El Granada - An off duty Deputy reported a reckless driver following him, and revving his engine while driving closely and erratically. An on duty Deputy performed a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle. Both the driver and his passenger were found to be on probation with search and seizure clauses. No contraband was located in the vehicle, and the driver was cited for infraction moving violations, and released.

10:04 p.m. – Misdemeanor Warrant – 8100 block of Cabrillo Highway - Deputy made contact with subject wanted on a misdemeanor warrant out of San Mateo County. He was arrested and transported to SM County Jail without incident.

 

Wednesday, Dec. 19

Information Report – 400 block of Main Street, Half Moon Bay - Community Service Officer on patrol located spray-painted graffiti on a fence. Public works removed the graffiti.

Identity Theft – 400 block of Casa Del Mar, Half Moon Bay - Deputy took report of the fraudulent use of a credit card, when unknown suspects used the victim’s account to make purchases at various locations at a total of $1,158.12.

 

Thursday, Dec. 20

5:30 p.m. - Drug Possession – Patrick Way - Deputy dispatched to report of three juveniles seen smoking marijuana inside a parked vehicle. The three juveniles were contacted and all three cited and released to a parent.

8:28 p.m. – Trespass/Vandalism – 800 block of Sonora, El Granada - Deputies dispatched to report of possible residential burglary, and made contact with a woman, her adult son, and her three other juvenile children, who had made entry into a house they had been evicted from by cutting the lock off the door. The woman stated she believed she had been evicted unlawfully at the advice of her attorney. The case will be forwarded to the DA for review.

9:35 p.m. – Public Intoxication – 1500 block of Hawser Lane, Half Moon Bay - Deputy dispatched to non-injury collision and found the driver appeared to be intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to SM County Jail. His passenger was determined to be too intoxicated to care for himself and was also arrested and transported to SM County jail on charges of public intoxication, to be released when sober.

11:29 p.m. – DUI - Highway 1/Etheldore Street, Moss Beach - Deputy on patrol performed traffic stop for vehicle code violation and found the driver appeared to be intoxicated. The subject was uncooperative and was arrested and transported to SM County Jail.
