Officers in Novato arrested an El Granada man Wednesday night after a standoff in Petaluma, a police sergeant said.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office informed Novato police that 48-year-old Jerald Dennis McCarthy was possibly armed and driving under the influence of alcohol somewhere in Novato, police Sgt. Jay Demski said.
When police found McCarthy in the 7300 block of Redwood Drive, he fled north on U.S. Highway 101, Demski said.
Police pursued the motorcycle and McCarthy exited the freeway at Petaluma Blvd. S. in Petaluma.
McCarthy dismounted his bike behind a business in the 7500 block of Petaluma Blvd S., displayed a weapon and threatened to shoot himself, Demski said.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office also responded, and McCarthy eventually surrendered around 10:30 p.m., Demski said.
McCarthy was booked into the Marin County jail at 11 p.m. on
felony charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a controlled substance, and on misdemeanor charges of exhibiting a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia and evading police.
