Trial Date Set for El Granada Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Student

The jury trial for the Aragon High Coach accused of inappropriate sexual contact with a female student is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2013.

A trial date has been set for an Aragon High School coach accused of sexually assaulting a female student, San Mateo County prosecutors said this week.

Joshua Tatro, who was arrested in June for allegedly touching a female student inappropriately, pleaded not guilty at his superior court arraignment Wednesday to charges in San Mateo County Superior Court.

At Tatro's arraignment, Judge Craig Parsons set the jury trial for Jan. 7, 2013, and a pretial conference for Dec. 11.

Tatro  June 1, the same day he was taken into custody for the alleged crime, and remains out of custory, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.

Tatro, 25, was arrested following a weeks-long investigation into the incident, in which authorities believe Tatro, who has worked as a water polo/swim coach at Aragon High School for the past year, had "inappropriate sexual contact" with a 17-year-old female student.

The student said that during the past year, Tatro had "touched her inappropriately," according to San Mateo police.

Prosecutors say Tatro's relationship with the student, a water polo player, involved repeated "sexual activity and digital penetration," but not sexual intercourse.

There were also "numerous" cell phone exchanges of pictures of private body parts, according to prosecutors.

The incident was first reported to school officials, who immediately contacted the San Mateo Police Department.
