Two of the three dead bodies found on Half Moon Bay beaches last month were caused by suicides, according to San Mateo County investigators.
The Richmond runaway girl whose body washed onto San Gregorio State Beach last month killed herself, the San Mateo County coroner said Tuesday in a San Mateo County Times article.
Cathy Qiu, 16, was in the water for up to five days before she was spotted Oct. 21 in the surf off San Gregorio State Beach. The honor student at Albany High School was reported missing Sept. 27.
The death of David Saczyk, a 31-year-old from Somersworth, N.H., is also deemed a suicide, reported the Half Moon Bay Review. He was found to have died from severe traumatic injuries and was discovered by a tourist who saw him floating in the surf in Miramar.
According to the Review article, Sheriff’s Office obtained video footage from the the Golden Gate Bridge reportedly showing Qiu and Saczyk had both been at the bridge at separate times before they turned up dead.
In addition to Qiu and Saczyk, the body of 44-year-old Eric Daniel Lower of Pacifica was discovered on Oct. 29 near Surfer’s Beach.
According to the Review, the San Mateo County Coroner’s office determined that Lower died as result of hypothermia and his death appeared to be accidental.
