The suspect, who hasn't been charged, allegedly turned over tables and chairs, broke computers and urinated on counters. He was found sleeping under the teller counter, and authorities had to use a taser to get him to cooperate.

University Place Police arrested a man who allegedly broke into Umpqua Bank, caused havoc and was found sleeping under a teller counter.

Authorities received a call shortly before 7 p.m., Wednesday night, after a courier driver noticed the bank's glass doors had been shattered, according to Chief Mike Blair. Deputies arrived and found overturned tables and chairs, broken computers and urine on the counters, he said.

Blair says they found a man sleeping under the teller counter. The suspect was unresponsive to deputies' verbal commands and "smelled highly of intoxicants." He fought when deputies tries to handcuff him, so they used a taser to get him to cooperate, Blair said.

The man, who hasn't been charged, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree burglary, first-degree malicious mischief and resisting arrest. The suspect also had a warrant out for indecent exposure.

Does anyone besides me find it funny that someone can break into the bank and destroy equipment, and yet it took a passerby to notify the police. What kind of bank doesn't have an alarm?!?!?! #UmpquaFail

Hey Dan, Technically, authorities didn't specify to me whether an alarm went off. It's possible the courier driver heard an alarm and called authorities. It just wasn't specified in police's version of the story to me. That was probably my fault for not making that clear. Sorry.

I happen to know the courier and there was no alarm. he was simply doing his nightly stop at the bank and found the scene as described. It is crazy that no alarm was set off!!!!!
