Vehicle Break-Ins at Sam's Chowder House

Crooks used a tool to punch through windows in three cars on Monday night, stealing laptops.

Several vehicles parked in and adjacent to the lot at Sam's Chowder House were burglarized Monday evening, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to reports of at least three vehicle break-ins at the seafood restaurant at about 9:30 p.m., according to the sheriff's office. Some time after 7:30 p.m., a suspect or suspects used a tool to punch through windows in three cars.

A binder containing miscellaneous material was taken out of a Chrysler, the sheriff's office said.

A laptop computer was taken out of a Toyota Rav4 parked near the restaurant on state Highway 1, and another laptop was taken from the back seat of a Honda Civic.

Other items of value that were inside the vehicles were not stolen, the sheriff's office said.

It is believed the suspect(s) reached in through the broken window to steal the items, as all vehicles remained locked when the victims returned to their cars.

Anyone who might have witnessed suspicious activity in the area at the time of the burglaries is encouraged to contact the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office at (650) 363-4911 or the anonymous tip line at (800) 547-2700.
