Warren Barry, 20-Year-Veteran, Promoted to Santa Cruz Police Lieutenant

Lt. Barry has worked on patrol, as a canine officer and in professional standards, to name a few.

Santa Cruz Police Sgt. Warren Barry was promoted to Lieutenant Wednesday, after more than 20 years on the force.

Barry started as a reserve officer in 1990 and then was hired as a civilian community service officer in 1992. The next year he was hired fulltime as a police officer.

"This promotion highlights a career filled with outstanding achievements and dedication to the community," said Chief Kevin Vogel, in a press release. "We are proud to have Lieutenant Barry on our management team."

Some of his assignments included working as the first school resources officer, at Harbor High School and working in the canine unit with a dog that became a celebrity, Dani. As a sergeant he supervised the canine unit and was patrol supervisor. He also organized the Parks Unit, which patrols the city's parks.

In his new job he will be a watch commander and will manage one of the five geographic beats in the city.

Barry lives in Santa Cruz County with his wife and two teenagers.
