City of Half Moon Bay to Honor Recreation Department Staff Tonight

Public invited to event recognizing departing and former employees for service to community.

Honoring departed — and departing — employees of the city's soon-to-be eliminated Recreation Department tops a full Half Moon Bay City Council meeting agenda tonight.

, whose last day as Recreation Supervisor was on Friday, July 15, will be honored by the council for his almost five years of service along with Caroline Weigandt, the department's Administrative Assistant. Former employees who were laid off in recent years will also be recognized for their service.

Though Weigandt will continue in her capacity at the department through August, she will transfer from the post to another Admininistrative Assistant position at City Hall "supporting a variety of citywide administrative functions," according to Katie Crowder, Assistant to City Manager Laura Snideman.

In April, the City Council voted to outsource the department and for its recreation services. The final contract with San Carlos was last month.

San Carlos on July 15, the same day as Alvarado's final day of work. As agreed to in their contract, San Carlos is providing 15 hours of in-person service at the Center a week.

Half Moon Bay is currently working with San Carlos to transition their services to the Bayside city. By September 1, the Recreation Department Director for San Carlos, Doug Long, will take over operations.

The recognition event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Ted Adcock Community/Senior Center in Half Moon Bay (535 Kelly Avenue). The public is invited and encouraged to attend. A reception with food and drink will be held afterwards with the honorees.
