Half Moon Bay Receives $8.2M for Highway 1 and 92 Improvements

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority granted $82.7 million of funding to 23 projects around the county to relieve traffic congestion.

Intersections along Highway 1 are going to get some traffic relief thanks to an approved allocation of $8.2 million from the San Mateo County Transportation Authority on Oct. 4.

Half Moon Bay was the third most heavily funded city of the 27 applications from various cities and agencies in the count. All intersections between Poplar Street and Wavecrest Road and between Main Street and Kehoe will have left-turn lanes, additional traffic signals and roadway widening, costing $7.6 million.

An additional $600,000 has been allocated for Highway 92: the widening of shoulders and travel lanes sight improvements along 92 from 0.6 miles east of Highway 1 to Pilarcitos Creek.

“By programming funds for future projects we are building a ‘pipeline’ that will set the course for our capital improvement program for the next 25 years,” said Authority Chair Carole Groom.

Funds are coming from Measure A, a voter-approved half-cent sales tax for county transportation projects and programs back in 1988.

This is what I've written pieces on. Here's one example: http://halfmoonbay.patch.com/blog_posts/follow-up-to-hmb-infrastructure-project Amazing to see how fast funding came in, isn't it? Now, it is my hope that individuals impacted, or potentially impacted as the elements of this project move forward step up and voice any concerns they (we) may have - even if it seems some of them are silly. There are no silly questions when it come to a project this large with this much impact on our daily lives. There is a lot of good in this, but as always, we each need to look at this and judge for ourselves what we think and how we feel about all aspects. Stay informed and we have an opportunity to help guide the end results. Otherwise, those decisions will be made for us (by bureaucrats with no skin in the game - other than their paychecks) and we will just have to live with it. Thanks for the post, Stacie.
