Half Moon Bay to Celebrate Smith Field Acquisition

City co-sponsors community event with Sheriff's Activities League on April 21.

 

In honor of Half Moon Bay's acquisition of , the city and the Sheriff's Activity League are co-hosting a community celebration this Saturday.

Baseball and a BBQ will headline the event, with youth activities and games taking place on the field located at the end of Wavecrest Rd. Along with a free raffle and giveaways, activities at the adjacent and games at the will take place concurrently.

“Field of Dreams is a celebration in honor of Smith Field becoming a permanent asset to the community,” Half Moon Bay Mayor Allan Alifano said. “We are excited to host this event that showcases all of the activities that take place at Smith Field, as well as thank the community for its support of Half Moon Bay Parks and Recreation.”

National Mentoring Day will also be celebrated during the event.

Half Moon Bay acquired Smith Field last August, when the city signed on to a with San Mateo County and the Peninsula Open Space Trust.

The volunteer-run Friends of Half Moon Bay Parks and Recreation will be at the event to provide more information about their organization focused on the quality of the city's parks and recreation programs.

Funds for the free event are being drawn from a grant from the National Police Athletic League for National Mentoring Day. Other sponsors include the Half Moon Bay Dog Park, Half Moon Bay Little League, , the National Police Athletic League, Lions Club International, Kellee’s Mobile Dog Grooming and the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association.

Field of Dreams will take place on Sat., Apr. 21 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the end of Wavecrest Road off Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay. All events are free.
