HMB Gang Meeting Scheduled for Next Week

City and Sheriff's Office co-hosting meeting about gangs, graffiti, prevention strategies and community mobilization.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office and the City of Half Moon Bay have announced that they will be holding a community meeting next week in response to a that took place earlier this month in the Arleta Park neighborhood of Half Moon Bay.

The meeting, which will take place on Tuesday, will address the following topics:

  • Gangs Defined
  • : What it means & What to do about it (see link for photos of gang graffiti in Half Moon Bay and a quick overview of gangs in the area)
  • Prevention Strategies
  • Community Mobilization & Partnerships
  • Community Q & A

The city and the Sheriff's Office say they are also interested in using the meeting to explore community partnerships and mobilization as a prevention strategy.

“I expect a great turnout at the community meeting as we are a strong community who will work together to resolve this problem," said Mayor Naomi Patridge.

“We will do everything in our power to thwart gang violence and the roots of gang behavior on the Coastside.  This behavior will not be tolerated,” said San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks.

A Spanish language translator will be available at the meeting.

The meeting will be held on August 30 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the at 535 Kelly Avenue in Half Moon Bay.
