Paid Parking Begins June 1 at Poplar Beach

City implements fees as part of larger effort to generate increased revenue.

Poplar Beach has been a convenient escape for beach lovers around the Bay Area for its accessible location, beautiful views -- and free parking.

Starting next month, complimentary parking will be no more. The City of Half Moon Bay announced today that paid parking will commence on June 1 at the beach located at the end of Poplar St.

Parking fees are $2.00 per hour or $10.00 per day. City residents may be able to purchase a yearly permit for $50. Payment will be made through electronic kiosk.

Because many visitors to Poplar Beach come for horseback riding along the bluffs, parking stalls for trailers in excess of 20 feet will also be available. The cost to park in these stalls are $3.00 per hour, or $15.00 per day.

Resident parking permits can be purchased at City Hall Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The cost of annual permits will be prorated based on the calendar year quarter that it was purchased in.  For example, a parking permit issued in June would cost $37.50.  Proof of vehicle registration within Half Moon Bay city limits is required before purchasing the annual permit.
