Sen. Yee's Been a Busy Bee (Part 1)
From foster care to immigration reform, Sen. Leland Yee has had a productive year sponsoring bills in the California Legislature.
In 2013, Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) passed 17 pieces of legislation focused on government transparency, foster children, environmental protection, access to our elections, and immigration reform.
“We had an incredibly successful session this year, passing meaningful legislation that will provide support for those in need and work to improve how our government functions,” said Yee.
“I urge Governor Brown to sign these vital and important bills into law.”
Here's a rundown of Yee-sponsored bills that have been signed into law by Gov. Brown in 2013:
- SB 44 will require all state websites to add a link to the Secretary of State’s voter registration page.
- SB 553 requires fee elections to implement the same standards for oversight as other elections already have.
- SB 751 extends the Brown Act to cover all meetings by large intergovernmental agencies.
- SB 282 allows family therapists to access patient records when defending themselves against charges of negligence, as other medical professionals are currently allowed.
According to Yee's office, since 2003, the senator has one of the best track records in getting his bills passed and signed into law. With the conclusion of the 2013 session, he has now successfully passed 181 pieces of legislation (125 were chaptered into law from 2003 to 2012).
