Senate Approves Rogers as Federal Trial Judge
First Hispanic woman appointment to the U.S. District Court for Northern California.
The U.S. Senate on Tuesday confirmed Alameda County Superior Court Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers as a federal trial judge in Oakland.
Rogers, 46, of Piedmont, was nominated by President Obama in May on the recommendation of U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
She was approved by an 89-6 vote of the Senate. Rogers will be the first Hispanic woman to serve on the U.S. District Court for Northern California.

Rogers was appointed to the Alameda County Superior Court by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2008. She previously worked in private practice in San Francisco as a real estate and business lawyer.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Rogers received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University and her law degree from the University of Texas.

Rogers will fill the vacancy created by the departure of U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker, who retired in February. A court spokesman said she is expected to receive her commission to take office shortly.
