A plane bound for San Francisco International Airport was evacuated at Dulles International Airport Wednesday, but arrived safely in San Francisco at around 7:30 p.m., an airport duty manager said today.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was on board the flight when it was evacuated, and slid down the emergency chute with the other passengers.

Several people suffered minor injuries during the evacuation, but Ginsburg was not among them.

United Flight 586 was getting ready to take off for San Francisco International Airport at around 12:45 p.m. EST when a problem with the plane's engine was reported, said Tara Hamilton, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which oversees operations at the airport.

The pilot deployed the plane's chute, and all passengers were evacuated from the aircraft, Hamilton said.

Three people were injured while exiting the plane, she said. Two refused treatment, and the third was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
