Sgt. Dennis Loubal: Statement to Half Moon Bay City Council on Police Services

Written (and presented) by Dennis Loubal, Half Moon Bay Police Sergeant who has worked in the department for 14 years.

Dennis Loubal spoke to the Half Moon Bay City Council based on this statement at a special meeting on April 2 where the council voted to with the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office to provide police services. Published with permission from Dennis Loubal to appear in Half Moon Bay Patch.

Good Afternoon Madame Mayor and City Council Members.

My name is Dennis Loubal.  I have been a sworn officer for the City of Half Moon Bay for 14 years and I am a resident of the greater Half Moon Bay/Coastside area.  Therefore, I have both a personal and professional interest in quality police services on the coast.

Four years ago, when the City's fiscal crisis became apparent, I hoped that
when it was resolved we would be moving forward together.  Unfortunately,
as the crisis has developed, that goal has become less likely.

The Chief has been very open and honest with the officers during the
bidding process.  We have met with him repeatedly and discussed his
recommendations to the council.  The officers and sergeants concur with
the his recommendations and the staff report.  We not only encourage the
council to enter into contract negotiations with the sheriff's office, but
to do so expeditiously.  Our careers have been on hold and the city needs
the savings.
