Want $40? Take Public Transit, or Ride A Bike

San Mateo County is rewarding residents for reducing traffic and emissions.

The spirit of Earth Day continues as San Mateo County encourages participation in an environmental event going on right now that can make you some quick cash.

Catch a Ride! Let's Roll, San Mateo County! follows in the theme of Earth Day and runs in conjunction with National Bike to Work Month in May.

We all know that taking public transit or bicycling to work reduces traffic congestion and reduces vehicle emissions.

So, the county is offering a program through commute.org in which anyone who pledges to take transit or bicycle to work a minimum of eight times between now and June 1 will receive a $40 gift certificate to a local bicycle shop or a $40 transit pass to use on BART, SamTrans or Caltrain.

The incentives will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis until campaign funds are depleted.
