3,000 Giant Cookies Baked for Fundraiser

Effort expected to raise $10,000 for art and education.

Parents and community members came out on Saturday for the annual Kings Mountain Cookie Bake, a volunteer effort where approximately 3,000 cookies are baked to raise money at the upcoming Kings Mountain Art Fair on September 3, 4 and 5 in Woodside.

Cookies sales will benefit the fair as well as the science, music and art curriculum at Kings Mountain Elementary. The school is part of the .

Baking giant cookies to raise money for education and art is a longstanding tradition in the Kings Mountain community. While the cookies were once baked in home kitchens, volunteers today travel to Wedemeyer Bakery in South San Francisco to to prepare these plate-sized treats a week before the art fair opens. Wedmeyer has offered its space to the effort for over a decade.

Five flavors will be available to fairgoers this year: chocolate chip, toffee crunch, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter and a mystery flavor which will be revealed on the day of the fair.

Organizers of the cookie bake expect to make around $10,000 for the school at the upcoming fair.
