Educate Our State Holds Rally in Support of Props 30 and 38

Coastside parents and their children urged the public today in a rally to vote yes on Props 30 and 38 in support of California public schools.

Friday afternoon a group of parents and children hit the streets on the Coast to remind people to vote Yes for Education.

The group is part of Educate Our State, an all-volunteer, parent-led group, uniting the voices of Californians in support of high-quality public K-12 education. Their Yes for Education campaign held over 50 events up and down the state informing parents on Propositions 30 and 38.

As part of the group’s advocacy here in Half Moon Bay, parents and students urged people walking and driving by today to vote yes on Prop 30 and yes on Prop 38, two very important education funding initiatives on the ballot.

The Educate Our State rallies were held on the corner of Highway 1 and Kelly Avenue in Half Moon Bay next to Hatch Elementary and in Montara near Farallone View Elementary School.

The group believes that strong voter turnout in this election is critical for public education in California. According to information on the Educate Our State website, if an education initiative isn’t passed by voters, K-12 public schools will face a devastating $4.9 billion in trigger cuts. If they fail, students could lose up to three weeks of school.

“We hope to send a message to our legislators by passing both props and demanding that they fund our schools,” said Susie Brillault–Bergen, a Hatch parent and leader in Half Moon Bay for Educate Our State. “Enough is enough.”
