HMB High School Senior Wins Comcast Scholarship

Carmen Altamirano will be honored along with other scholarship winners in Sacramento today.

Half Moon Bay’s Carmen Altamirano, a recently graduated senior from , will be honored on the steps of the California State Capitol today with a Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship.

Altamirano is one of 180 California high school seniors to win the $1,000 scholarship coming from 32 counties throughout the state. At the ceremony, two students will be surprised with $10,000 scholarships, and 25 students will win Netbook computers in a drawing.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson will be in attendance, as will Curt Henninger, regional senior vice president of Comcast California and Charisse Lillie, vice president of investment at the Comcast Foundation.

Students and their families will also be given a tour of the State Capitol and California Museum of Women and the Arts.
