School Board Seeks to Fill Seat Vacated by Charles Gardner

Cabrillo Unified School District accepting applications through Sept. 26 for appointment that will end in December 2012.

Coastside residents interested in serving on the Board of Education (School Board) have the opportunity until Sept. 26 to apply for a provisional appointment which will expire on December 6, 2012, District Superintendent Rob Gaskill announced today.

The new appointee will replace former member Charles Gardner, who resigned in August due to personal health reasons. Gardner had been a member since 2008 and served as the board's Vice President.

Eligibility

Those eligible to apply for the position must meet the following requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • a citizen of the state of California
  • a resident of the Cabrillo Unified School District
  • a registered voter
  • not disqualified by the constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office
  • not a Cabrillo Unified School District employee

 

Application process

 The district asks that applicants submit a written letter of interest addressed to:

The district requests that at minimum, the letter should include the following information:

  • a statement of applicant’s eligibility based on the criteria noted above
  • a statement describing the applicant’s interest in serving on the board
  •  a review of experiences and skills that would serve the applicant well as a member of the board

Letters must be received by U.S. Post Office mail or hand delivery no later than 4 p.m. on Sept. 26 in order to be eligible for consideration.

 

Interviewing process

Interviews for potential appointees will be held at a session open to the public at 6 p.m. on Oct. 3. Those who do not attend the interview session will not be considered eligible for appointment, the District said.

Members of the public are invited to submit letters or oral testimony on behalf of applicants during this session.

 

Appointment process

The Board expects to appoint the new member at the conclusion of the interview session. The appointee will be sworn in at the Oct. 13 district board meeting.
