What Are Your Plans After Graduation?

The Class of 2012 shares their plans for life after Half Moon Bay High.

Next week on June 7, Half Moon Bay High School’s Class of 2012 will walk across the football field and receive their diplomas, continuing the school’s tradition of an outdoor graduation ceremony.

Many are heading to college, with dozens of graduates who received acceptance letters to multiple colleges, "upwards of six to 10 acceptances each," said Half Moon Bay High School principal Mary E. Streshly.

“It’s looking like the Class of 2012 may out shine the last few classes with the following prestigious line-up of college acceptances,” Streshly said.

As the 2011-12 school year comes to a close, Patch wants to know what Half Moon Bay High School seniors have planned for life after graduation. The high school’s tri-annual Changing Tides Newsletter editor Janet Vrba did the work for us. In the Spring 2012 newsletter, students were asked, “What are your plans after graduation?” Here’s what some seniors had to say:

Senior Daniel Shafir-Schorr

“I’m going to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for landscape architecture.” He’d like to be a landscape architect with a focus on green ideas and green building. His inspirations come from living in the Bay Area and his mom, who works for the Environmental Protection Agency.

Senior Thomas Perkins

Perkins will attend Brigham Young University – Provo to study English. He plans to go into constitutional law with his goal aimed at becoming a judge.

Senior Shannon Cosgrave

“I’m going to go to Sonoma State University to study social sciences.” Cosgrave describes herself as a "people person" and desires to go into the counseling field to help others.

Senior Christine “Christy” St. Charles

St. Charles will also attend Sonoma State University to study general education. “When I was in 4th grade, one of my teaching aides was one of my mentors and she was very helpful and kind of an inspiration.” St. Charles is undecided but considering teaching as a future career.
