The art department’s Open Studio Night last Thursday gave artsy Half Moon Bay students an opportunity to showcase their sculptures, paintings, drawings, photography and more for parents and other admirers to get a glimpse at the hard work that art students have completed in class so far this year.

Imagine the hallway of the art building filled with an excited audience gazing at the nearly completely filled walls of artworks. As well as these pieces, representatives from Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco made an appearance in order to attract hopeful future artists in the making.

Although the hallway was the more occupied with students who brought in family to gawk at their work, others simply came to work on their pieces for a little extra credit. This included working on wire sculptures or other various drawings.

Overwhelmingly positive feedback was everywhere to be heard, and the night can at the very least be described as successful. Twelvth grader Mariela Barajas recorded the night as being “a lot of fun," she said. "There were a lot of great artworks to see and I got a chance to work on my sculpture. And the food was pretty good, too."
