Cunha Fields Grand Opening Celebration Tomorrow

Everyone is invited to come; volunteers still needed to help with the event.

The big project to upgrade the field on the west side of Cunha Intermediate School is complete, just in time for the start of the school year as planned.

The $3.2 million project entailed a complete overall of the sport field and facility and now features a rubber four-lane track, a horizontal jump pit, an enclosed soccer field, a bio-swale going around the track and 13 25-foot poles and netting.

Tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the entire soccer community is invited to experience the fields firsthand with a grand opening celebration hosted by AYSO organizers.

All soccer players any age from AY and CY are encouraged to come to the event wearing their uniforms, cleats and shin guards.

Coaches will be running soccer drills and scrimmages on the U6 fields and volunteers are asked to help with face painting and manning a bouncy house.

“We have a skeleton crew to cover the day, but could use a few more bodies all day long to round things out,” said organizer Carol Hunter, Half Moon Bay’s AYSO registrar.

Registration forms will also be available for the few remaining spots on the fall AYSO soccer teams and for the waitlist. Bring your checkbook or cash if you still want to register.

“We will also have blank volunteer forms for coaches, refs, and other volunteers who still need to submit one,” said Hunter, so bring a copy of your government issued photo ID if interested.

“It is going to be such a fun event," she adds, "but we still need volunteers to make it all come together.”

For volunteers interested, set-up begins at 9 a.m. and activities will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Or stop by the AYSO registration table during the event and ask how you can help.
