Sea Crest School and Wildlife Associates Partner To Bring Science Alive

Sea Crest School today announced an exciting partnership with Wildlife Associates, a Half Moon Bay-based science and environmental education organization “where animals are the teachers.”

Last week as part of the school’s Outdoor Education curricula, Sea Crest 7th graders experienced a wonderfully wild science adventure at Wildlife Associates’ animal sanctuary. Hawks, owls, foxes, a lynx, a sloth and more animals who were rescued and now live in their wildlife sanctuary became powerful teachers and representatives of nature’s wild world.

“Sea Crest 7th grade students had a remarkable time at Wildlife Associates,” said Michael Thompson, Director of Sea Crest’s Middle School.  “After an introduction to some of the wild animals on Wednesday, we returned on Thursday for an overnight adventure. The students enjoyed getting to know the animals, making nature masks and presenting their stories at the Council of All Beings.  We also learned how porcupines really use their quills, what a Kestrel is and why Lynx's have tufts of fur on their ears.  The students learned about empathy and respect for all beings, and about the interconnectedness of life on Earth,” Thompson said.

“The Sea Crest students were terrific. They were eager to learn about nature, wild animals, and how humans can effect positive change for the benefit of all life on Earth. They played science-based games and enjoyed a chilly night under the stars. However, they most enjoyed seeing our beautiful animals up close and learning about the wonderful diversity of life,” said Michele Durant, Assistant Director at Wildlife Associates.

“Wildlife Associates shares our enthusiasm for providing students with unique, hands-on learning experiences.  We look forward to a long relationship and to introducing more Sea Crest students to their wonderful animal sanctuary,” Thompson said.
