PHOTO OF THE DAY: Local Fisherman Preps for Crab Season

Paul Toste enjoys a peaceful afternoon in Princeton getting his crab floats ready for the season.

You know it's fall when you see local crab fishermen prepping crab floats for their pots.

Here's El Granada resident Paul Toste marking his freshly painted foam buoys in a Princeton lot. The bright fluorescent color is the way to personalize pots for easy identification, explains Toste.

The first day of recreational Dungeness crab season statewide is slated for Nov. 3, 2012, according to the California Department of Fish and Game, and Nov. 15 for commercial Dungeness crab season south of Mendocino County, which includes Half Moon Bay.
