VIDEO: Cub Scouts Race to the Finish in Pinewood Derby

Watch scouts from Half Moon Bay and Montara compete at the annual rite of spring.

Every year, Cub Scouts all over the world take a block of pine wood, four nails and four plastic wheels, then transform them into stylized racing machines. The cars are unique as people  -- with variations in color, shape, and styles.

Building the car is just the beginning. After all the cars have been made, they converge at the Pinewood Derby and go head to head in some friendly competition. This year, the event took place on March 27 at the Half Moon Bay Fire Station where Cub Scouts from Montara (Pack 255) and Half Moon Bay (Pack 263) battled it out on the racing track.

In the end, both Joey Cornelison for Pack 255 and Ryan Hildebrand for Pack 263 emerged as winners.
